Marathon Kids
Marathon Kids is a really cool program that is offered to kids in kindergarten - 5th grade for completely FREE!! Ethan's favorite thing to do in this world is run. He wants to run long and fast and forever. I love that about him!
The goal is for each child to run the length of a marathon, 26.2 miles over a period of about 6 months. Many schools from the surrounding school districts and homeschool children participate. One of the emails said that they expected 50.000 children to show up. Thankfully there was only a fraction of that or we never would have made it in and out of the stadium in a reasonable amount of time.
I'm not sure who the MC was but she was very bubbly and I thought she was a hoot. She was a teacher at one of the schools, I think, and that school has got to be lucky to have a teacher who cares as much as she does.

The kids do most of it on their own but part of the first mile and part of the last mile are run at Loos Stadium in Addison. Ethan's first run was the Saturday before Halloween and he was really excited.

He got to wear his Luigi costume which made it a little extra special and then to top things off we ran into some of our homeschooling friends.
This is Ethan after finishing the 1/4 to 1/2 mile run. He ran the whole way and was ready to go again.
BTW, this is the day that Emerson got called a boy FOUR times.

The Obligatory Halloween Costume Picture Post
First, we went to the Halloween Party at the DAC with my parents and little brother. Both kids got up for the costume contest, neither won, Emerson did serenade and dance for the guests later in the evening.

A little pre trick or treat, trick or treating. Emerson and Ethan both filled up their bags and although they didn't get much candy while out trick or treating that evening they ended up with this.

10 - 0, going for a perfect season
That is what I have seen A LOT of the last couple of months. Ethan has been playing football and between football practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays, games on Saturday morning, college football on Saturday, nfl football on Sunday I'm dying and can't wait for football season to be over. Ethan says he likes football but neither Craig nor I are convinced. We aren't sure whether or not he will play next season we'll have to wait and see.
Right now, his team is 10 - 0. There are only 3 other teams that he plays but we are still undefeated beating each team 3 times before going to the playoffs where we beat the Patriots one more time, leaving them with an 0 - 10 season, which makes my heart a little sad for them. In a couple of weeks, we'll get to play the Super Bowl at the high school stadium something all the babies are really excited about and we will see if we can beat the Cowboys one more time to bring us to an 11 - 0 season and 2 seasons in a row that the Broncos have gone undefeated.

Cinderella

I love the little sense of style that she has going on. Those shoes she just got yesterday, a neighbor brought them over because they were to little for whomever she bought them for. Isn't that incredibly nice of her? They are too big for Emerson right now but it was love at first sight for her. Like all good girly girls she loves shoes. She doesn't care if they are her size or not - I have totally seen her kick it evil step sister style in a pair of doll shoes or flopping around in my (only pair) of high heels. She has on her Cinderella costume that leave a layer of glitter where ever she goes, her old navy jacket complete with flowers and sequins, the faux doc martin yellow boots, her Disney princess baseball cap, and what you can't see a pair of baby legs underneath. This is what she deemed appropriate attire for football practice which we did not go to because I was sick and that resulted in this look...
On a side note, when I look at this picture all I want to do is clean that door. Eww!!

Where did my baby go???
In a couple of months Emerson will be 3 and in the last month or so she has changed SO much. She is thinning out and really leaving that baby/toddler chunkiness behind. Her vocab has changed and she is speaking in longer and clearer sentences. I kid you not two weeks ago she came to me in the living room and said. "Mommy, I have lost my costume, I can't find it in my closet. Can you come and help me find it please?" She is so not a baby anymore and that tugs at my heart a lot and makes me sad. A couple of months ago I was so happy that we were leaving that stage of our life behind and now I'm sad. I see pregnant bellies and little babies and for a moment I think maybe and then I think about it and realize that no I'm happy I don't want to add anymore to the mix, at least not right now. Ethan and Emerson are best friends and they have so much fun together. They have an amazing relationship and I hope that we can foster that and they will always remain close. Today, Emerson started blowing on a kazoo in her room. At first it startled me but I realized what the sound was and went on with loading the dishwasher. A few seconds later I heard Ethan( who had been in the living room and had run to her bedroom) "Emerson, Emerson are you okay? Oh my goodness I was worried about you I thought you were crying" It made my day that he took the time to run and check on her, especially since this morning they weren't particularly getting along and I was worried they would spend the day fighting.

Marshmallow centerpiece
I got the idea for this from a blog I saw on Craft Crave. I think it turned out really cute but it was such a pain in the butt to make. It was supposed to be marshmallows dipped in white chocolate but it didn't work out according to plan so there was a lot of improvising. The orange ones are white chocolate and so are some of the purple, the rest of the purple and the green ones were made out of icing.I used a plastic cauldron that I have had forever and used to use to pass out candy on Halloween. I put a couple of, 3 to be exact, Walmart bags in the bottom and then an egg carton on top of that. When putting the marshmallow skewers in I tried to be mindful of where I was putting them and keep it even to avoid having it tip over. If you look at my coffee maker in the background you can see that I was not entirely successful. My biggest problem with the white chocolate was that for some reason when I added the green it really thickened up and there was no way I could get it on the marshmallows. The orange and some of the purple went on great. I used a Wilton spatula to smooth the icing on just like I would do if I were icing a cake.
Would I make it again? Maybe... I think it turned out really cute and the marshmallows seemed to be a hit. The kids ate most of theirs and my husband ate several of the left overs. I would definitely do smaller marshmallows, these were huge. They were about twice the size of what I was thinking of when I told my husband I wanted big marshmallows. Lesson learned there are more then just miniature and big, they are also sold in gargantuan size(I think that also lead to the top heavy tipping problem I was having). I also would have liked to have put candy corn on the bottom like the girl on the blog that I read, I wish I had a link to it, but turns out stores don't carry candy corn after Halloween - who knew? Not ME!!
