It's homecoming parade day and we were ready to go. That is until the balloons started exploding. We blew them up at our house yesterday so when they got in the heat today (and it's a really hot day today in Texas) the air inside started expanding and it was like we were in a gun fight.
Here's a picture of just some of the candy that our boys will be throwing out.
The flower for the boys to give to the mascot cheerleaders during halftime on homecoming. The tag will have the little girls name on it, on the back it says Homecoming 2011 and the team names.
In our house, and many others, it is homecoming time. We're turning into a football family - whether I like it or not. I love to watch our little boys, and they are little ranging in age 4 - 6, out on the field and the close friendships that are forming. More than likely these boys will spend the next 7 - 10 years out on the baseball and football fields together and I think that is really cool. This is our second season and I feel like I have 14 boys on the field not just 1, I guess spending that much time together will do that.
This week, is a little more special then others. It's homecoming week. We have been busy making a float, garters, and flowers to give the cheerleaders. During half time the boys will walk on the arm of a little mascot cheerleader and hand her a flower. Last year, the boys walked with the moms and I'm going to miss that, but I think after taking a couple of days to adjust I'm okay with the idea. I'm still going to have a lump in my throat, I'm sure, but it will be one that I get when my babies do something new or I'm proud of them (since having kids everything makes me tear up).
Happy Autumnal Equinox! I'm excited for the first day of fall, especially after the beating Texas took this summer with 70 days reaching 100 degrees (and usually more). The slightly cooler temperatures are greatly welcome and a promise that the weather will have a chill to it soon. Now if we could just get some rain, then it would be perfect.

You have to keep your feet on the ground and remember that this is what you've worked for all your life. And now that you've achieved it, you don't want to screw it up.
I made this bow for Emerson to wear to our football games. I started out to make this bow but realized that, that might be a little too ambitious for being a novice bow maker. I also didn't like that they didn't have step by step directions. She did say the name of the bow so I was able to google a tutorial and used this one.

He tightened a tourniquet around his forearm. he tightened a tourniquet around his upper arm and told me to fetch Mom's sewing box. He fumbled around in it for silk thread but, unable to find any, decided that cotton would be fine.
I don't think there will ever be a day when the images from that day don't reduce me to a mess of tears.
Where was I? I was on my way to work. I listened to cds while in the car so had no idea what happened until I was at work. A co worker came into the room a shared with another girl and said a plane just hit the World Trade Center. With the cockiness that can only come from being in your early 20s I looked at her and dismissed it. "A plane has hit the World Trade Center before, every things fine, stop freaking out" Then came the news that another plane hit, and then the pentagon, then the missing planes and all the misinformation, and then the plane in Pennsylvania. For the first time ever, I really knew what fear was, I was cold and in shock.
On the way home I was struck by how deserted Dallas was, during rush hour, that never happens - no cars - no planes in the sky. Somehow, a city of millions had turned into a ghost town. I drove down Northwest Hwy to get home and could not believe it when I saw army tanks blocking the entrance to the police station. When I got home I went in my room and cried and I don't think I ever really stopped crying.
Friday night, the boys, our football team, attended the varsity game for our local high school. We live very close to the stadium and for the last 9 years I have listened to the crowd roar and the band play from the backyard and, on the rare, nice days from my couch. I attended a high school that didn't have sports and I was a big fan of the show Friday Night Lights, so I was ridiculously excited to experience a game. I probably would have enjoyed it a lot more when I was in high school and didn't have to watch a preschooler who is under the impression that the world is her oyster. I do look forward to going back when the kids are older, maybe when they are out on the field.

Our summer was so stinking hot that I gave up cooking for the month of August. We have lived off of salads, sandwiches, microwavable foods, and fast food. I never thought I'd say this but I've actually missed making dinner.
Monday - Labor Day so we'll be out at the pool no meal for today.
