Yesterday, we celebrated Princess P’s birthday with our family and friends. I really slacked off and it was not what I wanted but it turned out okay. I’m a procrastinator, and like always, put things off just a little too long. I meant to make cupcakes for the kids and then a pretty tiered cake for the adults but I wimped out. I also wanted to make some cookies for the kids to decorate. I thought that would be a lot of fun but I ended up having Big Daddy make a last minute run to WalMart for some playdough so the kids could play with it and put out a lot of my Wilton cookie cutters. I think the kids had a lot of fun and the adults had fun sitting around and talking and that is all that mattered. I’m happy with how her party turned out. I’m so thankful for everyone that loves my little girl and so glad that they were able to make it to her special day.

Yesterday, Princess P turned two. TWO!!! How has it been two years since I was laying on her bedroom floor next to the birth tub willing her not to come until my doula and midwife got to the house. She did wait but not for long and was born just minutes after their arrival.  I’m pretty sure she thought it would be just as funny as I did if she arrived during the Cowboys playoff game. Which, by the way, they lost so what did Big Daddy want to watch that game for anyway?

Yesterday we celebrated with some cinnamon rolls, presents, homemade pizza, cake, and grandma and grandpa. She got the hang of opening presents during Christmas so dug right in. Her favorite presents were the playfood and tea sets. (Now I just need Little Tykes to email me and let me know that the play kitchen I want is back in stock.) She served everyone tea and mixed food up and served food most of the day.

She is really getting into imaginative play and her personality is really starting to come out.  I of course think she is pretty stinking cute.  She is so polite but at the same time she is also a two year old so along with the “please, thank yous, and welcomes”, I also hear a ton of “mine” and ear piercing screams.  She has grown several inches in the last couple of months and is growing out of her chunky baby body into a tin little girl body. We’re still waiting on two of her teeth to come in, the top cuspids/canine teeth are really stubborn.

For Christmas Princess P got an American Girl Bitty Baby doll. On Saturday we drove over to the American Girl store to purchase Bitty Baby’s stroller for Princess P’s upcoming birthday.

I’m pretty sure Princess P and I were in little girl heaven while at the store. I could have spent hours walking around in there. Big Daddy walked in and was completely overwhelmed his words were, “I never knew this existed, I think I hate it” I assured him that we would never come back on a weekend again. It was crazy insane packed in there but I look forward to making many more trips with Princess P.

We decided to go ahead and let her have the stroller instead of making her wait until Wednesday. She was so happy. She pushed Bitty baby around most of last night and today.

This year we opted to have Monkey’s birthday party at the house, to save money (ha). Big Daddy insisted that we buy a bounce house instead of renting one. Buying one was about the same price as renting one twice so I guess it will save money in the long run. After that and all of the decorations and candy and toys for the pinata I’m positive we spent more then when we went to the skating rink or Moon Jumpers.

The cake was disappointing. It wasn’t horrible but I spent 3 hours on Batman and I wish he would have turned out better. It was delicious and does anyone really care what a cake looks like as long as it tastes good?

This was by far my favorite party yet. It was easy to sit around and talk to all the other adults and I really think the kids had a blast. It was too funny to watch them play with the water balloons and the screams and giggles over the pinata were priceless.

4 years ago today, at 7:47 am Monkey slid into this world into the arms of my midwife.

My first thought was “WOW, I can’t believe this is real”

He certainly didn’t stay a little wiggly baby for long.  The first year, he tackled motor skills moving from complete dependence to rolling over, crawling, pulling up, standing, and walking all by 10.5 months.

The next year, it was verbal skills.  You couldn’t say anything around him with out him copying you.  He mastered swear words exceptionally well.

What didn’t you do the next year.  You started playing soccer, potty trained yourself and started sleeping in your own bed.  It was way harder for me then you.  Monkey held my hand for a couple of minutes the first couple of nights and that was it.

And, this last year wow.  He has transformed into such a helpful and wonderful big brother.  He is reading and doing very simple addition. He decided that it was time to sleep in his room all by himself. Just like when he moved into his own bed there wasn’t much looking back, one midnight hug and he was all grown up. He became dependent in pretty much every way other than going out and earning a paycheck. Oh and he still makes me wipe his bottom, although, he says he’ll do it himself when he’s 4.

This little boy stole my heart and made me a mom.  I can’t even imagine what the next year has in store for us.
